Instructions:

Ingredients:

1 lg. granny smith apple, peeled and quartered and each halved---8 pieces
1 T lemon juice / 1 T butter / 1 T sugar
1/2 C (115 g) unsalted butter, soft
2/3 C (145 g) sugar
2 lg eggs + 2 yolks
½ tsp (2.5 g) lemon juice
1 drop almond extract
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/2 (60 ml) milk
1/2 (60 ml) light cream
1/2 C apple sauce
(150 g) flour
(2 g) baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 cup granulated sugar

Garnish:
Confectioners' sugar
heavy cream, whipped crean or vanilla ice cream
mace

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350°F. Butter bottom and sides of a 10 x 1.5-inch round quiche dish or non-stick cake pan. Peel core apples, cut in 8 equal wedges and mix with 1 T sugar, 1 T butter and 1 T lemon...set a side. Cream together butter and sugar. Beat in egg and yolks, lemon juice, almond-vanilla extract, milk and cream. In another bowl, combine flour, baking powder and salt. Stir flour mixture into egg mixture with apple sauce and mix well, spread into prepared pan. Arrange apples on top at 12, 3 6. and 9 clock positions and then between them, pressed lightly into the batter with the peeled edges up. Sprinkle evenly with sugar, bake 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted pulls out clean.

Cool, Cut 8 wedges. Plated, dusted with powdered sugar and fresh heavy cream poured over the kuchen or with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. Sprinkle on 1 pinch of ground mace over the cream. Get fancy and candy the apple peels, then place on top of the kuchen as an addition garnish.
